recruiting excellent transcribers: education level

Experience shows . . .

Transcribers should have a level of education at or above the level of courses they'll be transcribing.

At least a high school education, but several courses and at least one degree/certificate beyond high school are preferred for all service providers, even those transcribing in middle school, for religious services, or community work.

Experienced recruiters look for candidates who show a desire to continue learning and improving their skills.

Transcribers said . . .

"In lieu of a degree, a thirst of knowledge in a wide variety of subjects is good.

    "Broad base of general knowledge."

"I'm new to transcribing, but continually amazed by the vocabulary needed to do the job well.  I would think a candidate without a college degree would be at a disadvantage."

"Transcribers are constantly taking in lots of new ideas and terms."
